DAVE BARR - BIOGRAPHY
Dave Barr is a forty five year old native Californian who rode his 1972 Harley-Davidson motorcycle around the world. The journey carried him around six continents and took a grueling three and a half years ('90-94') and 83,000 ridden miles to complete. To date, only eighty nine others have successfully toured the world by motorcycle, but Dave is the only one to have done it on an American made Harley-Davison. If this wasn't enough of a distinction, Dave is also the only disabled person to have ever accomplished this feat. He's a double amputee who lost both of legs to a land mine explosion in 1981 while serving on active duty in Angola. Dave has written and published a 500 page book about his journey around the world called "Riding the Edge." He has also produced a video by the same name.
Deciding he needed yet another challenge, Dave set out on another adventure in the winter of '96/97'. This time his efforts earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The journey started at the Atlantic Ocean and carried him across Northern Europe, Russia and Siberia all the way to the Pacific Ocean. As if this wasn't enough, Dave did the entire 13,000 milo motorcycle journey in the dead of winter. He has recently completed and published his second book "Riding the Ice' which documents the coast to coast adventure.
Not surprisingly, Dave received many requests to speak to various audiences about his experiences. As a result, he made a successful career change from 'Adventurer Extraordinaire' to 'Motivational Speaker'. He has spoken to various international business corporations, academic institutions, military groups, public service organizations and charitable foundations throughout the world.
Dave holds the distinction of being;
· An individual who has served in active duty as a regular enlisted soldier in the armed forces of four different nations.
· The first double amputee skydiver in the world.
· The only disabled person to have ridden around the world on a motorcycle.
· The only individual to have ridden a Harley-Davidson motorcycle around the world.
· The first person to have established a Guinness Book World Record for traveling by motorcycle across Northern Europe, Russia and Siberia in the dead of winter.
· The author of two published x books
