Below you will find some itinerary suggestions
for your trip in August. I started to write this a long while ago, but
haven't
had time to finish. So far it goes only to Bergen on the west
coast, but at the end I have added some more links without any route
suggestions - so if I don't get the time to finish you can look up routes
yourself.
There are links to more information embedded in
the
text, so look for them! It is many nice roads and places, so you might
choose
dfferently than I have; several times I have changed the itinerary because I
thought of even better places you can go.
Here's a few links to get you
started:

<div>Online maps and travel planner: http://www.visveg.no/norguide/
<div>Different travel info: http://www.norway.com/ and http://www.visitnorway.com
<div>Web cameras: http://www.webcamsinnorway.com/
<div>If you start where you have the bike parked,
you
can start riding south to Porsgrunn. If you want a more interesting road
than E18, take the tiny, badly mantained, road 306 until you come to
road 40, then a little north on that one, and then road 32 going through
Siljan.
Then road signs will lead you to Porsgrunn. Going on E18 it is about 80-90
kms from Tønsberg, the alternative route is maybe 30-40 kms longer. I
usually
prefer the alternative route myself, if not in a real hurry. You are now in
Telemark, one of the best countys to ride a bike.
<div>From Porsgrunn drive road 356 to
Drangedal, nice and curvy road. Continue the road to Bostrak and take a left
turn onto road 358 going to Treungen over the mountain, this is a really
nice
piece of road and lasts for about 30 kms.
<div>From Treungen go north on road 41, then take
road
38, to Dalen. If you want to, you can go down into the village Dalen
itself, it has a nice, old, wooden hotel, and nearby you can find Eidsborg
Stavkirke, a wooden church built in the 11th century.
<div>From Dalen take road 45 until you meet road
39, and then go south on it to Valle. 12 kilometers south of Valle turn
right
onto a small road called the Suleskard road, I think the road sign says
Sirdal. This is really a mountain road; when I recently drove it myself by
motorcycle there were banks of snow 4-5 meters high along the road, and
snowing.... I guess the snow will be mostly gone by August though.
When the road ends, take road 45 towards Sandnes.
<div>When arriving at the main road E39, you can
drive north on it or go out to the smaller coast roads (nicer but slower)
towards Stavanger - the main
"oil
town" in Norway. It is a nice city however, with a blend of old and
new houses.
<div>From Stavanger, take road 13, and after the
ferry
you will be about 15-20 kms from Pulpit
Rock - a place you might want to visit. The area is called Ryfylke, and
on the web-site the link points to you will find other attractions in
Ryfylke as
well.
<div>Continue the same road up to Røldal in Hardanger, a beautiful place. From
there you can go out to Haugesund
(also
nice) on the coast, or continue north crossing a fjord or two by ferry and
see
the Folgefonn glacier, before going to Bergen -
one of my favorite towns - don't miss it!
<div>Extra links - all places are north of Bergen,
all
the way up to the southern part of northern Norway, so you can make your
route from what you want to see:
