One reason to travel from the east coast to the west is that one saves the best for last.

Travelling the Yellowhead Highway takes the rider to Jasper National Park.  There are

three choices:  (1) head north to Alaska,  (2) southwest to Vancouver, BC. or  (3) south to Banff.

This latter route is the choice if there is limited time.

The ride from the city of Jasper down to the city of Banff is one of the great motorcycle rides.  It is just as good as New Zealand, Norway, or Iceland.

Then one can proceed even further south to Waterton State Park and Glacier in the US, another great ride. Between Banff and Waterton is Kananaskis Country along highway 40, or even some good offroad.  At Glacier take the "Going-to-the-Sun Road".   Another great ride and another story.

But a word of warning.   A great ride at great expense if you intend not to camp.   And, make reservations ahead of time.   In fact one could stay outside the park and just drive into it during the day.   Also, the Jasper to Banff drive is replete with RV's.  Even in late August and early September have warm gear as the mornings are quite cool.
