While customs in Chile would seen straight froward, read this:
Hi Tynda The swiss guy is Hoefi, whom was in Ushuaia at the Millenium meeting as well. He had been with his BMW motorcycle in Chile 5 years ago. When he entered last year with the same motorcycle again, he was arrested on the spot. Somewhere in the Atacama desert. He was brought to a prison on the coast. His girlfriend went on her mc to the coast, with some friends who were travelling with a 4wd. The jail was a leftover from Pinochets time, after one night without food and drink he was released on 3000$ bail. But had to meet his judge 2500km south in Tacna. They had to travel on their own cost there, still not knowing what was wrong. At the court, an interpretar told him that he had entered Chile 5 years ago with a BMW car, and left it with a motorcycle. He told the true story, and was set free. I am not sure, if he got back his money. I saw Hoefi on the Gieboldehausen Travellers meeting, and 15 other Ushuaia millenium travellers, but since he does not like me, I did not ask him, he does not talk to me at all. Don´t know why. If he showed this attitude at the border as well, it would have not been very helpüful. Anon So be certain the document, which you must sign, says "moto" not "auto" as you can not assume that just because you have motorcycle clothes on and have a helmet with you that \ the customs officials know you are on a motorcycle.
