i have managed to make it to huanchaco, near trujillo in peru. bike is behaving a bit strangely and i have written to a few people asking for advice.
ref bmw mechanics in ecuador: the dealer is alvarez barba in quito. they do cars mainly, but have no spares for bikes. i don't know good they are. there is a chap named lothar ranft who is a car wrench who has a wreck of an old r80 g/s in the back of his workshop where you can probably canibalise it a bit more. cuenca is the motorcycling capital of ecuador. a few off road shops exist. very helpful in an emergency. i can supply addresses if you need them. i also have a good friend named ricardo rocco in quito who could help/point you in the right direction as necessary.
