Auckland, wellington have BMW dealers. I prefer Wellington's, but that's
just because I am from there.
make sure you get off the main road onto some dirt roads - there are plenty
in both islands
do not miss the standard tourist attractions:
rotorua
milford
corramandel
west coast, south island
franz josef/fox glaciers
queenstown (ride up the ski area roads)
some bike specials:
the road from picton to nelson - take the "shortcut" that does not go
through blenheim.
the road from nelson to murchison, to reefton, to the straights before
greymouth. then to westport.
the rimitukas - a hill north of wellington which goes to masterton. after
that go to castlepoint - check out the beautiful surf beach. explore from
there south along the coast/inland - some great dirt/tarmac roads
the road to the "cook strait cable" - go over the makara hill (wellington)
and essentially turn left. ask a local - then you need to ask the farmer for
permission to use the road - be polit and you should be fine.
almost every road in new zealand is made for motorbike riding - and because
it is such a small place gasoline is never a problem - go ahead and explore.
