Hello you travelers!
Well, since I guess you are coming into Brazil through Santana do Livramento
I would suggest you to visit São Miguel das Missões, where there are ruins
of the ancient jesuit/indian mission . Froma Santana you ride up to Rosáro
do Sul, then to Santiago and further up to São Miguel das Missões. From
there you could go to Bento Gonçalves and Garibaldi (further East), where
the best Brazilian wine is produced. From there you could then go to Nova
Petrópolis, a German descendent town and from there to Gramado and Canela.
From Gramado and Canela I would travel to Cambará do Sul, to visit the
Itambezinho Canyon (in the Parque Nacional Aparados da Serra). All of that
in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
About the bike, the IRS office says that the visa for tourists and the bike
has the same time extension. So, I would say the best is to leave the
country for Paraguay, just to get over the border and come in either in the
evening of the same day, or the next day in the morning and make sure that
you get another 90 days period.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip!

AND ANOTHER:
Now, my friend wrote that you can only have the motorcycle as long as your
tourist visa is, as if it were an extension of you - so normally a tourist
visa in Brazil is valid for 90 days. If you get an extension to this period,
you automatically do also get it for the bike. Should you travel around in
the bike after that, the police may aprehend it and it goes to an auction.
I am going to try other sources of information though, ok?
As to shows and motobike meeting in Brazil: this is the site to go to www
motoclubevirtual.com.br, on the left, going down the arrow, there is a board
with monthly events, where practically all of the shows in Brazil are listed
You know, roads in Brazil are a bit different from the ones you find in
other southamerican countries. Most are paved (with asphalt), the ones that
are not, do not lead you to bigger towns or cities and many times do not get
any conser/preservation service, thus being real bad. Others are not safe,
because of robbery.
Have a safe trip. Anne
THE PANTANAL:
To visit Pantanal there are two alternatives: 01 go to the city of Bonito in
Mato Grosso do Sul and visit the region, with rivers of crystalline waters
and a wonderful fauna. 02 go to Cuiabá and from there go by transpantaneira
until Porto Jofre, there are 230 km, but 150 km are without pavement and
more than 200 bridges, however with a very different fauna.
Distance:
Matelandia - Bonito = 445 miles
Bonito - Cuiabá = 535 miles
Enjoy your trip.
Big hug,
João B. Lima

AND MORE
Augustus. Please to repass for its friends. I
write in Portuguese because although to read well in English, the same
does not happen when writing - but this does not have to be problem for
they, since they desire to come back to Brazil and they can then go
training. The question on the month of April to travel to the Pantanal and
what I can say is that although still to be with the water level still
high for March rains, already it is possible to cross almost all the
regions. today scripts with more permanent roads exist of what to some
years, when was impossible to arrive at many points until in May or June
the waters lowered more. After all the name is pantanal, of quagmire. It
has many different places and scripts to follow from São Paulo but I
believe that if the Campo Grande must go directly and to profollow there
to the desired destination. Destinations - to see the interesting site
http://www.turismo.ms.gov.br/ to choose the Pantanal option more with the
diverse visited cities. Now, if it does not have to leave of clicar in the
option ÒMountain range of the BodoquenaÓ and to follow to choose ÒPrettyÓ,
a place where if it can dive as in a crystalline water aquarium, with the
fish in return, a beautiful alive coloring. For the script of trip from
São Paulo it gives pra to make download of the detailed road map of the
state of São Paulo in the site:
ftp://ftp.sp.gov.br/ftpder/mapas/mp_rodov_alta.zip to look for to follow
for SP-280 - SP-225 and later for the SP-270, double tracks for the most
part. From the verge of the state of Mato Grosso of the South, to make
download of the map in
http://www.dnit.gov.br/menu/rodovias/mato%20grosso%20do%20sul.zip and to
look the desired script.
